While
the Rest of us Jumped
In my story,
I’ll show the ending
that you never get to see.
a boy died last night
lying safe in his bed,
while the rest of us jumped
off bridges, gripped our lover’s
naked bodies and screamed,
letting our voices skate
into windows of dark
houses across the lake
the world was
our bodies
in flight from here
to there, where sounds bounced
off flat calm
for a time we
hung
in the in between like bobbers
cast over the edge, surrounded
by nothing and distanced
from everything, except the everything
was no one at all.
a breeze came
and woke us up
when there weren’t anymore
dreams to be had
