The Needle The Space

Straylight’s 2004 debut album cemented in singer John Nolan and bassist Shaun Cooper’s split from Taking Back Sunday. Now free of their contractual obligations with Victory Records, SR’s follow up continues improving upon their brand of piano driven indie-pop. With the one the scene’s most recognizable voices, and an incredible knack for penning emotionally charged lyrics, John Nolan shares vocal, guitar, and piano with sister Michelle Nolan. The result is hair-raising. Mark this down: “Soon We’ll Be Living In the Future” is gonna blow this band up. The Needles The Space thrives on a variety of styles, all of which feel natural within the scope of the album. The vocal interplay between John and Michelle is jaw-dropping, and the album is a constant barrage of melody after stunning counter-melody. It’s a shame that once the goose-bumps die down we’ll have to prepare to share this band with the rest of the world.
